The Magic of Felixstowe

The new anthem for our town

Felixstowe’s latest song is here, offering a genuine tribute to the people, places, and landmarks that define us. From the rhythmic hum of the Port to the gentle lap of the North Sea, Felixstowe’s newest anthem captures the unique pulse and coastal charm of our town. This song is more than just a melody; it’s a tribute to the community, the heritage, and the shared spirit that makes Felixstowe home.

A Song for the Whole Town: From a shared idea to school halls, civic stages, and now a professional studio track—this song belongs to everyone who calls Felixstowe home.

The story of how this song actually came together makes it even more special. It wasn’t cooked up in a vacuum—it is literally made from the memories, stories, and affection of the choir members themselves.

The spark was caught during a visit of Song of Seattle Chorus in 2025. Hearing them sing with such fierce pride about their own home city across the Atlantic got the wheels turning. It got us thinking: Why don't we have an anthem that does that for Felixstowe?

Here is how that inspiration turned into the music we’ve just recorded:

Built from real memories

Instead of just writing generic lines about the sea, the ladies of Felixstowe Harmonies sat down and poured their own lives into the lyrics.  They shared their personal memories, their favourite spots, and the specific things things they love about visiting and living here.  Because of that, every single line of the song carries a genuine piece of someone's experience in our town.

Shaping the harmony

Taking a collection of raw memories and turning it into a structured piece of music is no small feat. Chandra Grover took all of those stories and beautifully wove them together. She composed a gorgeous, rich four-part harmony paired with a moving piano accompaniment. Chandra managed to capture both the grand scale of our coastal landscape and the intimate, warm feeling of our community, giving the choir a piece that is incredibly rewarding to sing.

What started within our usual rehearsal space is already growing into something much bigger, and that’s the most exciting part. The song isn’t just for Felixstowe Harmonies anymore—it's being adopted by local schools and sung at civic events around town. Watching the next generation and the wider community take ownership of these words and melodies means it is truly becoming the anthem we hoped for.  It’s a shared celebration of home that everyone can lift their voices to.

Our Recording Sessions with Mohawk Studios

Getting ready for the big reveal

With the Felixstowe Carnival launch set for July 25th, having a proper studio master changes the game. It means the song will sound incredible during the procession, can be handed straight to local radio stations, and will be ready for everyone in the community to listen to long after the weekend festivities wrap up.

Here is why heading into the studio was such an important step for this anthem:

polishing the sound for a lasting legacy

Step into a recording studio, and the whole energy shifts. For Felixstowe Harmonies, making the leap from our usual rehearsal space to a professional studio wasn't just about getting a clean audio track—it was about preserving a moment in our town's history.

THe Ultimate Team Effort

Singing in front of professional studio microphones is a completely different experience than standing on a stage. It requires a unique kind of focus, where every voice has to balance perfectly to create one unified sound. The session gave everyone in Felixstowe Harmonies a brilliant opportunity to come together,  push their musical boundaries, and experience the thrill of watching a hometown melody turn into a polished track.
